Gerardo Carsolio was born in Mexico City, the sixth child in a family of
seven kids. Gerardo has spent his life observing, studying and learning to
become the artist that he is today.
As a child Gerardo was always attracted to things from nature. He loved to
collect flowers, leaves, seeds, and anything else that caught his eye during
frequent hikes around the beautiful Mexican countryside, always imagining what he could create with the things he found.
At a very young age Gerardo developed a passion for woodworking. A self
taught furniture maker, carver and painter he learned
through trial and error how to do this difficult work with his hands.
Gerardo continued to hone his skills while earning a degree
in textile engineering and at the same time pursuing an interest in
languages; he would go on to learn French, Italian, German and English.
After completing his degree Gerardo spent a year in Europe, spending time in
Germany to perfect the language and learn about the
architecture, art and design of the old world. After moving to Canada, Gerardo started to combine his skills and experiment
with different media, evolving his work into the unique combination of carving, painting and woodworking that
you see today. |
